This year, Bertazzoni is introducing something a little different. While the Italian company has offered many induction cooktops in the past, we took a look at its first induction standalone range, the Professional Series 30" Induction Range. Induction is far from a new technology, but it's been incredibly slow to grow in the United States. Can a little Italian spice get more Americans converting to induction?

Design

Bertazzoni design heritage, under glass.

The first thing you notice when you approach this new range is that it completely lacks any kind of burners or coils on its top surface. A black sheet of Schott Ceran glass-ceramic material makes up the entire cooktop, with little more than printed silver X shapes denoting each "burner" on the induction surface. It's super spacey to behold, and matches the futuristic induction technology perfectly in spirit.

The rest of the range is standard Bertazzoni, with the company's trademark knobs featured front and center. It's a distinctly professional look, but if you like a little whimsy with your appliances, don't worry: Bertazzoni offers plenty of wild, striking color options. On offer, you'll find bring red and bright orange among the options for alternate fronts on the new range.

The oven that's built in certainly seems well-built, with a thick door mounted on sturdy, yet smooth-opening hinges. We love the classic look of the winged Bertazzoni logo, and it's prominently featured beneath the oven's window.

Induction

Science-fiction cooking

We've written a bit about how cool induction cooking is, but it's worth going into again. Americans aren't buying into induction with the enthusiasm of many other nations and it's a bit of a shame.

The flat black induction surface gives this range a sleek look.

Induction is a super efficient method of transferring heat into a pan. Unlike gas and electric ranges that can waste energy, the induction coils in the cooktop only put heat into the pan, and the cooktop itself stays cool to the touch—a nice safety bonus.

Bertazzoni is using its latest generation of induction technology in this pro range. The unofficial ballpark estimate on time-to-boil is four minutes for a half gallon of water—half the time of a comparable gas cooktop.

Conclusion

Stylish and technologically advanced.

Bertazzoni's latest range is a forward-looking, sleekly-designed option for the high-end crowd. If you're obsessed with design and want something that your neighbors probably don't have, then this range easily fits the bill. After all, it's almost enough that the Professional Series 30" Induction Range is from a small brand with a storied history. But why stop there? This is an underappreciated but super cool induction cooktop, which will keep your kitchen looking like it's on the cutting edge for years to come.
