The Miele Futura Dimension G 5670 SC VI dishwasher (MSRP $1,699) isn't just one of the best dishwashers we've ever tested. It's one of the best industrial designs we've ever encountered.

We appreciated its highly adjustable interior, its stellar cleaning performance, and its unique automatic door-opening feature.

You read that right: The door opens itself when a cycle is done. While that might seem like an unnecessary luxury, it's actually an innovative way to dry dishes. Simply opening a dishwasher door helps moisture escape, and dries dishes faster and better than the vents, fans, and heating elements that other dishwashers use.

So, let Miele get the door for you, and get ready for spotless, dry dishes.

This video shows the inside of the Miele Futura Classic Series G4225SCU, but it has the same wash system and a similar interior to the Futura Dimension G 5670 SC VI.

Design

If it’s yellow, you can move it.

The sheer number of adjustable parts inside this Miele is mind-boggling. Nearly every shelf, every tine, and every support can be manipulated in some way—and all the parts that move are colored yellow. It's a smart design, and encourages users to customize their dishwasher to what they're loading into it. No matter how thick, oddly shaped, or unwieldy your dish is, chances are you’ll find a way to load it inside the Futura Dimension.

Interestingly, this dishwasher does not have a cutlery basket. Instead, a so-called 3D Cutlery Tray third rack is designed to hold all your eating and serving utensils. Cleverly, the middle section of the third rack can be lowered if you need more clearance to fit your spatulas, ladles, ramekins, and even small cups. If you hate touching dirty forks, knives, and spoons, the cutlery tray lets you simply drop them into place.

The Futura Dimension is equipped with a neat innovation: a self-opening door. When a cycle finishes, this Miele’s door automatically opens a couple of inches. This simple act greatly increases drying speed, and it also serves as a sure-fire way to indicate that your dishes are done.

The G 5670 SC VI we tested is custom panel-ready, so it's possible to hide your dishwasher behind a cabinet front that matches your kitchen. However, we found that the toe kick can block the door from opening if the door panel is too large; If you’d rather not size everything yourself, there’s no shame in having a professional do it.

If you don't want to hide your dishwasher, there are also other fascias available in the Futura Dimension series, including stainless fronts, hidden control panels, and front controls.

Cleaning

Worth the wait

In each of our tests, dishes tended to come out of the G 5670 SC VI perfectly clean and dry. As far as the task of actually washing food off of dishes, the Futura Dimension is phenomenal.

There are a couple of minor drawbacks, and the most notable is the lack of a Quick cycle. Even with the Turbo feature engaged, no cycle takes less than an hour. If you're hosting a party, you better not count on doing dishes halfway through. Additionally, our meters found that this Miele used more water and electricity than others we've tested.

Still, the Futura Dimension's benefits are so great, they really do outweigh the flaws. Aside from impeccably clean dishes that are usable right out of the dishwasher, this Miele also gives you easy, responsive controls and an Intensive setting to really power off tough stains.

Why We Like It

A whole new Dimension

If you can live without a dedicated Quick cycle, the Futura Dimension is one of the best dishwashers—and one of the best appliance designs—we've ever encountered. It’s astoundingly easy to use, highly adjustable, and incorporates some extremely clever solutions to major dishwashing problems.

For instance, a door that opens automatically at the end of a cycle might seem like an utterly unnecessary indulgence, but it's actually a clever way to get dishes dry and spotless. We also loved the yellow accents on the interior racks that signify all the moving parts which make the interior easy to customize.

If you want a dishwasher that just makes life easier, you can't do much better than the Miele Futura Dimension.
