La Cornue has been making boutique ovens and ranges since 1908, but the French manufacturer has never made a range like this before. That’s because the Chateau 150 range on display at Milan Design Week is literally one of a kind.

Amsterdam-based designer Lex Pott took an already extraordinary brass-finished range, and allowed it to oxidize over time.

In the case of this La Cornue range, the bright blue textured finish tells us a bit about its composition. Brass is made of copper and zinc, and both materials have an entirely different look when found in nature. As anyone who has had to clean copper-bottom pans knows, oxidation reveals those colors.

Pott has explored oxidation before with his “True Colours” series of furniture. Though La Cornue commissioned him to give one of their ranges a similar treatment, you won’t be able to buy one, as it’s a one-off for Design Week.

Of course, since every finish looks different when oxidized, no other range would’ve looked just like this one, even if La Cornue had commissioned Pott to make more.
